Fall Green Smoothie

As many of you recall, I've recently (since March) started making green smoothies for my breakfast, almost every morning.  I am trying to focus on seasonal fruits and veggies and I have simplified my previous recipe. I enjoying running out to the garden each morning to pick the fresh kale, super satisfying, even if there are worms on the leaves I have to meticulously rinse off.

I've been using the apples, and depending on their size I use 1-2 until the smoothie is just sweet enough. I have been using the same about of kale as before, about 4 large leaves, and a banana. I have yet to create a palatable smoothie without a banana. I top the drink off with a spoonful of chia seeds, and off to work I go!

I was actually recently re-inspired by apples, which alone give me a upset tummy, but don't bother me in a smoothie. The age old saying, "an apple a day, keeps the doctor away" has more truth in it than I realized. With the recent push of super-foods, sometimes the old favorites are neglected. Check out this link to the Skinny Chef's website which details some of the great benefits of eating apples.
