Homemade Spelt Chips [Vegan & Low Fat]

Forget those store-bought chips which are full of fat and sodium, and have a list of ingredients a mile long. Two ingredients is all you will need, with the spelt flour being high in both protein and fibre, two big pluses in my eyes.

These might just be the quickest and easiest chips you can make.
By following the easy to remember method of 2 parts flour to 1 part water, you will have yourself some delicious and vegan-friendly spelt chips in mere minutes!

Staying in and having a movie night at home is all the more tempting when you can chomp down on these.

Ingredients

1/2 Cup of Wholemeal Spelt Flour
1/4 Cup of Water

Method

Pour the water into the bowl of flour, a little bit at a time
Mix well as a little water goes a long way
When it begins to come together, start using your hands and knead well
Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to 2-3mm thickness
Transfer to a non-stick pan, lighting toasting each side
Remove from the pan and cut your chips into any shape
I find a pizza cutter is a great tool for this
Pop in a 180 degree Celcius oven for 10 minutes or until crunchy

Makes 2 serves

Macros per serve (roughly 22 chips)

4.5g protein
0.5g fat
21g carbs
nil sugar
3.5g fibre

Add some chia, sesame or poppy seeds to the mixture to add some more texture. Even try a sprinkle of your favourite dried spice or herb to make these chips any flavour you please.

Now that your chips are made, try it out with tzatziki dip, hummus or my chunky salsa recipe.
