Protein Sources for Vegans & Vegetarians #3

In part one and part two in this series, I spoke about the various seeds, nuts, grains and vegetables high in protein. Today is all about vegan and vegetarian safe protein powders.

Whey, casein and egg protein powders could be considered vegetarian protein powders, there is little information provided to know if these cows and chickens have been fed a vegetarian diet, therefore I have decided to exclude them from this list.

Vegan and vegetarian protein powders are gaining popularity, however, for some, they are difficult to find in stores. You can find all of these listed products at iHerb.com (enter NDW884 to save $10 on your first order), or at their respective websites.

Now, let's get to it.

NOTE: In the brackets next to each product, I have listed which, if any, sweetener they contain.

Brown Rice Protein

Peanut Flour

You may not consider peanut flour a protein powder, however with 16g of protein per 30g serve, peanut flour has as much protein as other types of protein powders. It can be mixed with (non-dairy) milk and maybe some cocoa powder and stevia to make a delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie or used to make a Vegan Peanut Sauce for a delicious lunch/dinner dish.  Its versatility as an ingredient just makes me love it even more.

Per 30g serve:

4g fat
8g carbs
2g sugar
4g fibre

Hemp Protein

Protein Powder Blends

Proventive Nutritional Therapies (pea, brown rice, hemp, cranberry and chia proteins)

Genuine Health Corporation (pea, brown rice, alfalfa, potato and hemp proteins)

Garden of Life Raw Protein (a huge list of protein, and sprouted seeds and grains)

MRM Veggie Protein (hemp, pea, brown rice, flax and chia - with xylitol and stevia)

Sun Warrior, Warrior Blend (pea, cranberry and hemp proteins)

Due to these blends containing varied proteins, I will not be supplying the macros per 30g serve.

Bulk Protein Powders

If you wish to buy in bulk, I suggest searching ebay or looking on Google for suppliers who sell unflavoured vegan protein powders. The prices are usually much lower as they have plain packaging. You can find protein powders at a reasonably discounted rate, depending on how much you purchase

As you can see there really are so many vegan/vegetarian protein powder options out there. Do your research and decided whether you want flavoured or nonflavoured and find which suits your budget.
